Sorcerer is a Charisma-based full caster whose strength comes from a focused spell list and metamagic. The class rewards planning because you know fewer spells than a Wizard but can reshape how key spells are used.
Choose the casting role
- Area damage
- Single-target burst
- Battlefield control
- Support and utility
- Party-face Charisma coverage
Metamagic should have a job
Pick metamagic options that support the spells you actually cast often. If your build is centered on control, use metamagic to improve timing or target coverage; if it is centered on burst, support the spells that create that burst window.
Spell selection matters more
Because the known-spell list is limited, avoid taking too many spells that solve the same problem. Cover a few distinct encounter types instead.
Survivability still matters
High Charisma and strong spells do not replace positioning. Use party protection, defensive spells and movement so the Sorcerer can keep concentrating and casting.
Multiclass carefully
Charisma synergy makes multiclassing tempting, but every level outside Sorcerer changes spell progression. Test the final split before committing.
