Elden Ring Starting Classes

Starting classes shape early stats and gear, but your long-term build remains flexible.

Elden Ring supports a wide range of playstyles, including heavy melee, agile combat, ranged approaches and spellcasting. Bandai Namco's 2026 update notes also added Idus Knight and Heavy Knight as starting-class options through Tarnished Pack content.

How to choose

Pick a class that begins close to the stats and equipment your intended build needs. Because Elden Ring allows extensive leveling and equipment changes, the starting choice mainly affects your early route rather than locking the entire playthrough.
