What the roles mean
Frontline absorbs pressure and occupies enemies. Single-target damage removes priority targets. Area/control handles groups or limits movement. Healing/support keeps the team functioning. Utility/skills covers exploration, dialogue and non-combat checks.
How to use the result
A missing category is not automatically a bad party. BG3 classes can cover several jobs at once. Use the result as a prompt to ask whether the missing function is genuinely causing problems in your current party.
Example workflow
- Assign the primary role for each party slot.
- Check the gaps.
- Open Party Composition or a class build page for the missing role.
- Re-run the planner after changing a class, companion or multiclass split.
Do not chase perfect symmetry
A party does not need one dedicated character for every category. One Cleric can cover support and control; one Rogue can cover utility and damage. The useful question is whether your actual encounters expose a weakness.
