Baldur's Gate 3 Ability Scores Guide

Allocate ability scores around the character's actual role instead of trying to make every stat high.

BG3 uses six core ability scores: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma. A strong build usually prioritizes the few scores that directly support its job.

Strength

Commonly supports Strength-based weapon use and physical checks. It matters most when the build actually attacks or interacts through Strength.

Dexterity

Supports Dexterity-based attacks, initiative and several common skill uses. It can also matter defensively depending on equipment.

Constitution

Supports survivability and concentration-related resilience. Even characters that do not attack with Constitution often benefit from enough durability.

Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma

These mental abilities support different spellcasting classes and skill checks. Do not raise one only because it sounds generally useful—match it to the class and party role.

Avoid spreading points everywhere

A character with several average stats can be less effective than one with clear priorities. Cover missing skills through party composition instead of forcing one character to do everything.
