Warlock build planning in Baldur's Gate 3 is mostly about defining the character's job before deciding whether to remain single-classed or multiclass. A clear role makes spell, invocation, feat and level-split choices much easier.
Pick the primary role first
- Ranged magical pressure
- Charisma-based party face
- Melee hybrid
- Utility caster
- Multiclass foundation
Single-class versus multiclass
Staying Warlock preserves deeper class progression, while multiclassing trades some of that depth for features from another class. The right split depends on which features your build actually needs, not on a universal template.
Spell and invocation planning
Choose options that reinforce the same role. A ranged-focused character benefits from reliable pressure and utility that creates better attack opportunities, while a melee-oriented version needs enough durability and positioning support to function closer to enemies.
Feat planning
Do not select feats in isolation. Check whether the feat improves the main role, fixes a weakness, or creates a real synergy with your equipment and party composition.
Use the level planner
If you are multiclassing, test your proposed split before committing. BG3's level cap means every level assigned to a second class is a level not spent progressing the first.
